Pyrophones, or fire organs, are a reality. Flame Componiums, depicted here, are not. But according to Reed's EMI article on the same, they are a possibility. Essentially, a Flame Componium is an environmentally - triggered pyrophone accompanied by a sensitive flame array. Reed constructed these illustrations from a number of archival engravings including the work of Gustave Dore, H. Winkles, R. Schmidt, Madel III and G. Feldmeg.
